Disney Education Sea Turtle Adventure
This project is an interactive educational experience initiated by Disney Education Productions and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation. It's designed to teach children ages 8-12 about sea turtle life cycles and the detrimental effects mankind has had on the species over the last 100 years. The project is visually based on Pixar's movie, "UP" and incorporates the idea of Wilderness Explorers. It is accessible through a web site portal that takes the user to a paralax navigation experience that incorporates story telling within the paralax experience, interactions using tools and multi level game play. Children earn badges when completing interactions and game play. An adventure journal collects items automatically as children play through the experience to document their journey. Ultimately, the experience is designed to motivate children to be an advocate for the species in the real world. The experience is COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) compliant and controlled by class room teachers or scout troop leaders that act as mediators.
